Today is our first day to spend at home since last Thursday. For the last week, we have used our home as a place to sleep, dump our dirty clothes, and pick up some clean clothes. Needless to say, everything seems out of order and cluttered. I’ve been cleaning and de-cluttering this morning.
I’ve also had the privilege of putting up fresh vegetables from Granddaddy’s garden. After his retirement, Granddaddy planted and worked a garden every year. God was always faithful to produce a plentiful harvest that Granddaddy could share with extended family and the widows at his church. Granddaddy was not so hopeful about this year’s garden, though. We have not had near the rain we need here in Alabama, and Granddaddy was sure he would not have much to show for his garden. But God, in His goodness and faithfulness, has rewarded Granddaddy’s hard work. Even with very little rain, those seeds have grown and we are reaping.
Last night, Hubby went out to pick what Granddaddy had not picked. We came home with bushels of fresh corn, tomatoes, squash and zucchini. We’ll go back to pick more when it’s ready.
Though it is a perfect picture, Granddaddy’s garden is not the only blessed aspect of his legacy. Granddaddy sowed much more than simple seeds that produce physical fruit. He sowed to the Spirit. He sowed love. He sowed grace. He sowed the gospel. He did not give up. God will be faithful to watch over those seeds and make sure they grow and produce a harvest of blessings for generations to come. All to the praise of His glorious grace.

Hi LeslieI followed you from Amy’s blog and I’m so glad I did. What a beautiful post about your grandad! I’m reminded of “for everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven” I’m so sorry for your loss.
