We are a people who want to see results. We like to know that our efforts are not wasted. So, we’ve created all sorts of ways to count decisions for Jesus. To have to wait for fruit to grow in order to see if a profession of faith is real is not something most evangelists and pastors are willing to wait for.
Together for the Gospel is dedicated to the heralding and upholding of the Gospel. I thought this particular article was interesting in light of this and my posts earlier this week. Check it out.

Amen! My husband and I both grew up Southern Baptist. In college, God revealed to him the doctrines of grace through the Word. In our SBC churches, we were taught that if someone questions their salvation, then look back to a decision or to a prayer that was prayed. How sad. If someone questions their salvation, they need to look at their life and see if their is fruit! It’s not about repeating special words for someone. So many churches are interested in “numbers” more than true conversions. Have you heard the Paul Washer sermon? I know that link was circulating around the internet alot. The link is: http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?sermonID=52906154239 Check it out when you have a chance.

Jenn–How did you KNOW I was referring to Southern Baptists? ๐ I have not heard that sermon, but I’ll definitely check it out.You are absolutely right. It’s all about bearing fruit in keeping with repentance.

I didn’t know for sure … we recently left a Southern Baptist Church to help plant a new church. We’re not affiliated with SBC. Our theology is essentially Reformed, founded on the doctrines of grace. Exciting! Our website is http://www.gracefc.org.
