I’ve been reading a bit about the popularity of “Christian” yoga. Personally, I think it is impossible to take a Hindu practice and call it Christian. It does not make sense to take the way a Hindu approaches god and apply it to the One True God. He has already told us how we are to approach Him.
Here is a passage that makes clear God’s mind regarding a practice/discipline to draw near to God that is not put forth in His word:
“When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?–that I also may do the same,’ You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that they LORD hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.
Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.” Deuteronomy 12:29-32

If you scoot over to the Slice of Laodicea blog Ingrid just put up a link to an interview of a swami who is clearly upset that Christians are using yoga. I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I think you’ll find it very informative!

I am a frequent visitor to Slice. I have not listened to that interview yet, either. I’ll bet is interesting.

Amen, Amen!! Christians need to steer clear of pagan practices! Thanks for the heads up!

I totally agree. People think if they put the name “Christian” in the title, then it’s ok. Same thing with meditation. Many churches are incorporating prayer labrynths. Oh – I better not get started on that. Maybe I’ll do a post about it sometime!
