Okay, I finally caved. After reading all over SAHM blogdom that FlyLady is the best for cleaning advice, tips, and organization, I decided to go on over and read the site. I read a little bit and decided to try the Beginner Babysteps. There are 31 days of “baby steps.” Day 1 is “Shine Your Sink Day.” Being the good student that I am, I shined my sink. I followed FlyLady’s instructions completely. I spent two hours cleaning my sink. Granted, most of that time was spent reading a book and folding sheets, but I’ll still count it as “cleaning.” Anyway, this is the shiniest this sink has ever been. And, I finally got rid of the gunk under the rim! I also put my shoes on this morning. That really isn’t a big deal. I usually wear shoes around the house because our floors are so hard. I just thought I’d mention it because it is one of her tips/rules.
If you’re familiar with FlyLady, what do you think of her advice and other stuff? Is there anything I need to be aware of as I begin the baby steps?

She’s good, and I know the whole sink thing helps. The shoe thing is hard for me. I have actually found myself at my destination with bare feet and I prefer flip-flops any day of the week. I think it could work well, but the e-mails started to freak me out and I panicked. I may try back again. I am the type to move around a lot and never complete a task, so her method of managing the chores makes sense.Good luck! She probably needs to adjust her whole system for the homeschooling momma’s because I think that’s a whole other ball wax 🙂

I think the real question should be, “What kind of name is ‘FlyLady?’”

Kim–That is a question I have, too. How does this plan fit in the life of a homeschooling mom? I’m certain that I don’t have all day to clean. It’s just my first day, and yes, the emails are coming like crazy! Karl–I just realized what the FLY in FlyLady stands for…”forever loving yourself” or something weird like that. The “hugs” and “smile at yourself in your shiny sink” steps will be gingerly stepped over by yours truly.

I think she has some great ideas, but the emails were too much for me. I have taken some of her ideas and left others. I agree w/what you said..it is different when you’re homeschooling. Your sink looks great. That is always a nice thing to wake up to!

I signed up for FLYlady just after Christmas. Some of it has been very helpful for me. I’ve learned to just to a little bit when I can, rather than stress that I can’t do it all. The “Even housework done incorrectly blesses your family” saying has been helpful to me.I’ve had to modify things a bit to suite me. If I try to do the “home blessing hour” for instance, I’m hurting for the rest of the day. But, that’s just me and my naughty knee 🙂

With all the emails and inspirational messages, I’m starting to think this FlyLady thing is like a religion…

Good grief!!! Do I really need an email at 11:30 p.m. to remind me to go to sleep?

Way too many emails for me too, and this was years ago…I’m sad to hear she hasn’t changed. Surely there’s a better way than drowning your newbies with cleaning reminders! I like the 27 fling boogie! I’m not good at the shoe thing, but I became religious about making my bed thanks to fly-lady! 6 weeks to a good habit! I haven’t lost it yet…God bless, you have a great blog!
