There’s a Song in the Air!

It was “beginning to look a lot like Christmas” several weeks ago at our house. We decked the halls about a month ago (we had to do something to lift our spirits–we were listening to the Alabama- LSU game). Well, today the weather is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. After many, many days of humid 60 degree temperatures, a massive cold front blew through our area last night. No doubt you’ve heard about it on television. It is not snowing at my house. In fact, it is still far from snowing, but at least I need a coat today. Yippee!

I put on some festive music as I made pancakes this morning. But before I could listen to anything, I had to decide which CD I wanted to listen to the most. We have accumulated quite a collection of Christmas music. We have two Harry Connick, Jr. Christmas albums which I enjoy. There are a few songs on each CD I have to skip–they just drag on and on–but they’re still my favorites. I also really enjoy the traditional songs sung by the likes of Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Mel Torme. One of my all-time favorites has to be John Denver and the Muppets. It doesn’t get any better than Miss Piggy on “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” We have several CDs of instrumental Christmas music. These CDs are the cheapest ones you can buy (talk about being underappreciated), but they offer hours of listening enjoyment for me.

So, while I’m rockin’ out to a jazzy “Sleigh Ride” while I make pancakes, what are you listening to today?

  1. I’m listening to a Mercy Me Christmas CD and the Veggie Tales Singing Christmas Tree! It’s 70 here today but it’s supposed to be cold again tomorrow – in fact, by Monday we won’t get above the 40’s! Frigid!

  2. High of 20 here. We not only needed coats, but gloves on our way to the library this morning.I really like those CD’s that are just instrumental. I’m going to get out our Christmas music today. I haven’t played any yet, but we are all decorated here.

  3. Jenn–Wow! It’s in the forties here today. I’m surprised it’s still in the seventies in VA. The VeggieTales Christmas CDs are a couple that are in heavy rotation around here, too.

  4. I have the WOW christmas going and The King has Come. It is a compilation of Caedmon’s Call, Sixpence, and others. Really good! The front came through here as well. My mom and dad had one of their trees come down on the house this morning due to the heavy winds. Luckily, noone was hurt.

  5. Right now I’m listening to my boys fighting when they’re supposed to be “resting”, lol! That cold weather is causing my Hubby quite the grief today. He was supposed to fly from Las Vegas to Chicago and then switch flights to Ottawa. But of course, there’s no way he’s getting into Chicago anytime soon. He managed to get the very last seat on a flight direct to Toronto but it doesn’t leave until 11:30pm. The joys of winter travel!

  7. I don’t have anything in yet, but ready to go is my Mo-town Christmas album dh bought me a couple years ago. It has some great oldies, alas, not my favorite, a Mo-town version of White Christmas. I absolutely love Sleigh Ride though, it’s probably my favorite non-Christian Christmas song!Good for you decking the halls before Thanksgiving, I was tempted! It’s so much work to go to to only enjoy for less than a month!

  8. One of our favorite Christmas CD’s is an old Bing Crosby radio special set during World War II on Christmas eve comercials and all. It’s a lot of fun. But today, I got my shipment from Sovereign Grace (Christmas presents mostly) and have been listening to Valley of Vision. It’s a beautiful CD.
