Weather is the theme over at Rebecca Writes this month. All you have to do is write a little something about “the weather in your neck of the woods.” Since I stepped outside this morning, I thought I’d share what I found.
We started back to school today. Our morning schedule includes catechism, breakfast, and exercise. After everyone was sufficiently bundled, we ventured out for a little bike riding. We made it all the way to the stop sign at the end of our street before Noah began protesting because of the frigid temperature. His poor little hands just couldn’t stand the cold. See, he was the only one without gloves because he didn’t put his back where they belonged–his coat pockets–after the last time he wore them. Poor guy! We rode back home and the kids played around the yard until it was time for our first lesson.
My eyes deceive me. Just looking out my window, I see sunlight streaming through the trees. There is a slight breeze. The sky is a crisp blue. There isn’t a cloud in the sky. It’s a beautiful day! It doesn’t look like it is 25 degrees! Once you factor in the humidity and the wind, it feels like it’s 15 degrees! (Pausing to thank God for our heat pump).
The high today is 39 and the low is 12. This is pretty low for Alabama. I think the weather man said the average temperature for our area this time of year is in the fifties. Still no snow in the forecast, though. Bummer.
I have to get back to teaching now…

It’s cold as whiz here in NC. I think the temp is 22 right now, and it feels like 2.We’re staying inside and getting caught back up on some school work. Since I’ve rather evolved into an unschooler, that doesn’t mean as much as it used to. These days I’m happy to get some math done and some reading…and maybe writing too. I still can’t believe how relaxed I’ve become about the whole school thing…

Once I figured out the temp in Celsius your temps are exactly the same as it’s been here in Canada. I thought it would be ALOT warmer there.

PS I meant my little neck of the woods in Canada – not the whole country =D

Here it usually freezes at nighttime but warms up during the day. Happy New Year!

We’re at 50 here in sunny Cal. Exercise after breakfast sounds like a good idea. What time do you start lessons at? Do you find the kids have a harder time starting school after being out or does it make it easier?

Today was the first day we tried exercise after breakfast. In the past, I’ve just let the kids go out at the morning break time, but then it was so hard to get them to come back in. They get so involved in whatever they’re doing. SO, I thought doing it first thing would help with getting our blood flowing and helping them want to sit still for a little while afterwards. Plus, this way I get some exercise in my day. I am sooooo out of shape. I thought it went well today. We started our lessons around 8:15. Took our break around 10. We stayed inside which made it easier to get H and B back to their desks to finish our morning. Ask me again tomorrow, though, I may have a different story! LOL

We just returned from visiting family in Georgia and the big thing there was how COLD the cold tap water was! Today, at home (Orlando, FL) my daughter washed her hands and said, “There’s GEORGIA water comin out the faucet!” It’s supposed to get to 28 degrees tonight. That’s cold for Florida. We’re wimps.

Oh, yeah, I saw on the news tonight that the crops in Florida are in danger tonight. I hope everything isn’t ruined.

It should be a sin for the south to ever be this cold. It was 21 this morning here. My hand and toes are just as cold as can be – even with my house at 66. Grrr!! At least I heard the birds singing this morning and Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal were in our back yard. Glad to see they made it through the night!

Yesterday we hit 4. But, I still managed to be a complete dork and where shorts running. That’s be a good story for the ER next time. (How Angel got frostbite)
