Persuasion

I’m just popping in to find out if you Austen fans remembered to tune in to PBS last night for the first installment of The Complete Jane Austen.

Did you enjoy this new adaptation of Persuasion? Though I have not finished the book, I felt like a lot was missing. I could just tell that I was missing background info on the characters. Still, I found the tension between Wentworth and Anne palpable. Unlike my first viewing of the latest version of Pride and Prejudice, I didn’t have a reference with which to compare this version of Persuasion. I think part of the reason I was able to enjoy Persuasion last night was because I sat down with zero expectations.

What did you think?

Next Sunday night they will be airing Northanger Abbey. If you click on the link, you can find a plot summary and the trailer.

Here’s the whole schedule.

  1. I did remember, but it was to call my mom and ask her to record it for me since we have no TV. I’d like to read the book first then watch the movie. It seems summer time, when I don’t have school to teach, is when I really have time for movies, so if you’re still interested, I’ll tell you then!

  3. Oh, girl- it was on my calendar. 🙂 Hubby (so sick with the flu) and I put the kiddos to bed and snuggled up to watch. I have watched Persuasion when it came out in 2005(?) and honestly liked the one on PBS better. I mentioned to my husband it was because Wentworth was much more “agreeable” in this rendition. ha! All in all a good watch- I just wish the poor girl would have ‘unslicked’ that hair just a bit.

You know I remembered–gotta love DVR!I liked it, but not a whole lot. The version with Amanda Root and Ciarian (sp?) Hines was much better and truer to the novel, but the two were very similar. I was disappointed in how they changed the ending, but that’s all I’ll say about that for now since you haven’t finished the book.

  6. I just happened to find it on and talked Josh into taping for me, which he reluctantly did after trying to talk me out of it. =) Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet!
