As I was preparing for bed last night, my mind was buzzing with my to-do list for the next day. I printed out my Outlook schedule and felt all antsy wondering if I’d be able to get it all done. So, I began to pray that the Lord would give me joy in my work and endurance for the work. I set my alarm clock for 6 and thought to myself, I could really use the extra hour if I get up at 5. But I may need that hour of sleep more. So, I set the clock for six and asked Jesus to wake me up at 5 if I didn’t need that extra hour. Then, I asked him to help me sleep.
And I fell asleep quicker than usual.
Then I heard my name.
“Leslie.”
“Leslie.”
“LESlie.”
I opened my eyes. My heart was racing. I turned to look at the clock.
It read 5:00.
I was so excited that I didn’t even think about rolling over. I didn’t question whether or not I needed more sleep. I just grabbed my Bible and journal and went to spend some time with Jesus. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
Sometimes extra sleep is good for strength. Then sometimes Jesus wants to remind me that His strength is really all I need.
I wonder if He’ll do it again tomorrow…

I’ve asked and had the same thing happen to me too. And yes, it is the best!

Since we’ve started our homeschool summertime schedule, I’ve been asking the Lord to give me that early morning time as well. Just the fact that I’m not sleeping through the alarm, and finishing all the morning prep with abundant time for prayer is a huge blessing right now.

I’ve had the same thing happen…a voice has stirred me awake. Usually it’s when I’m exhausted & I know I’ll be temped to sleep through my alarm. I balked at the thought of rising early for years…but I’ve found it’s life-changing. This week, my girl decided (on her own) to start rising early and spending some time with Jesus before her day begins. What a blessing from the Lord!

I love that! There is no better time of day and no better way to start it (with a cup of coffee in hand, too).
