Hello There (BlogHop til You Drop)

,

Sorry I’m a little late to the party. Hubs really wanted me to go with him to see The Dark Knight. You know, the new Batman movie? We left the kids with our awesome babysitter and rushed to the theater. We didn’t have time to get snacks or anything. I was hoping it would be like more of a date where we’d share a straw and some Reece’s Pieces. Not tonight. We were seeing a Batman movie, so Hubs was all business. Drive fast. Grab ticket. Climb two steps at-a-time to get to center seats. Step on toes. Grunt for woman (ME) to sit.

Oh, I kid.

Sort of.

The excitement and anticipation almost killed him.

Did you know that The Dark Knight is about 2.5 hours long? I’m not accustomed to sitting that long for a movie — most of the movies we take our four kids to see are less than two hours long. Waaaay less than two hours long. TDK just seemed really long to me. How many monologues can there be? And how does Christian Bale make his voice so scratchy and deep? These are the things I was wondering as we left the theater while my husband was musing about all the reasons that this movie is so true to the old Batman comics. As he spoke, I caught myself just looking at his face and wondering, Who are you and what have you done with my husband? Seriously, how did he keep this geeky side such a secret while we were dating? How can I know a person for five years and miss the fact that he loves Batman and Luke Skywalker with such passion?

Oh, I kid.

Sort of.

He really is 33 different kinds of awesome.

So, thanks for hopping over here. My name is Leslie, and this is my little corner of the tubular interwebs. I love to read good books and write about them. You can find most of my reviews at Discerning Reader, too. I’m a SAHM of FOUR FABULOUS KIDS. Allow me to introduce them with my archives:
Hannah is my girly-girl.
Benj is my introspective one.
Noah changed my life.
Abbey is our princess.

See you around!

We went to see Wall-E last night and I really, really wished that I was in TDK…. or any other one really. Our theater was PACKED OUT because of that movie! I guess it’s also because of Heath Ledger?

Hi! Nice to meet you – I’m still making the rounds of all the blog hop blogs. My hubby is not that interested in Batman, but we did the first midnight showing of the Indiana Jones movie when it came out, so I understand! We had to get there TWO hours early to get “good seats”. 🙂

  14. Well it was so nice getting to know you. Cool story about you and hubby going to the movies. There are just some things that turn our men into little boys who go crazy over their favorite comic book heroes. My husband is the same. He hasn’t seen the movie yet, but he is on his head. Every time he sees the previews on TV, he talks endlessly about it. I hope he sees it soon. I’m not a fan, but I may have to endure this with him. Oh well…

  15. I sure hope my hubby doesn’t ask me to go to that movie. The joker looks WAAAAAY to creepy and I do not have the attention span for 2.5 hours of a movie. The Titanic nearly killed me.

  17. We tried to get to Dark Knight, but our baby sitter canceled at the last moment. There’s just something about Batman, my not-nerdy-in-any-way guy turned into a bubbling preteen over Batman. LOL

  18. Leslie!!! You seriously didn’t like Dark Knight? It was AWESOME! That’s not even close to geek – it was one of the best action flicks I’ve ever seen (and I actually love a good action flick). That probably makes me weird. But he doesn’t fuss about me reading Twilight to him, then dragging him to the movie, and I like to go to movies like this with him. Of course I leave him to the guys when it comes to mindless blood and mayhem movies. That’s not the same. I found Batman, though, to be a three hour rush that was totally worth the twenty bucks.

  19. Alicia, I didn’t mean to imply that I didn’t like The Dark Knight. I really enjoyed it — it IS an awesome rush! I just meant to say that I am not quite as into it as my husband. He’s still talking about it and planning to see it again. BTW, where have you been?!!

  20. My hubbie went with a friend to see the movie and loved it. He is taking me to see it Saturday and I can’t wait. I love all the comic book movies now. When you have 3 small boys and 1 big one you kind of have to learn to like superheroes. My poor Maddie has no clue what she is in for with three older brothers. They(my hubs included) are already talking about costumes for Halloween. They are going as Fantastic Four. Not that you needed to know all that I am too hyped up on java to limit my talking. Glad you enjoyed it!
