Prepare yourselves, Republicans

Now I hope I am wrong about what I’m about to predict. I pray I am wrong.

We, meaning Hubs and I, watched almost all of both conventions. I have to tell you, we were disappointed in Hillary. After all the fuss this summer over the Michigan and Florida delegates, I thought for sure she would “make sure the people’s voices were heard.” Instead, she called for party unity and decided to forgo the state-by-state delegate voting. Hardly a whimper was heard from the super delegates.

And when she wasn’t even vetted for veep! Can you imagine how she felt? Then again, there was no way she would agree to be the bottom of that ticket. She has more experience than Obama. And after everything she said about him during the primary season, she would have looked like a fool. No, she should hold out for when she can run for president again. After all, she’s still young and healthy.

And Joe Biden? I didn’t know much about him until the convention. Yawn. He’s almost as bad as John F. Kerry (a.k.a. “Lurch”).

So when Sarah Palin was announced as McCain’s running mate, my first thought was I bet the Dems are thinking they made a mistake.

But surely they wouldn’t change the ticket now? That would be crazy. There are probably rules about that, too. Then again, the Dems are all about changing the rules in the middle of a losing game. On the other hand, Hillary would still want to be the top of the ticket (she’s still more qualified than Obama) and why in the world, being the ultra-feminist she is, would she accept the VP spot as second choice? No woman wants to be second choice. I don’t care who you are. Such were my thoughts last week.

Obama met with Bill Clinton in his New York offices today. No one knows what they were talking about. Then, Joe Biden made some startling statements today. Just listen:

SEN. JOE BIDEN: Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. She is say close personal friend and qualified to be president of the United States of America. She is easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me, but she is first-rate. I mean that sincerely. (HT: Michelle Malkin)

The problem is that they cannot gain any momentum right now. I’d bet the Dems realize that making Hill the VP is the only way to change course and reinvigorate their ticket. Biden’s admission that Clinton would have been a better pick is only the first step. IF they are thinking that they need Hillary on the ticket, then Biden will most definitely bow out “for the good of the party” (or some other “noble” reason) and Hillary will take his place.

If they’re really smart (which isn’t likely), Hillary should take the top and Obama should take the bottom of the ticket. If the Dems do that, they will be virtually indestructible. And I will be crying in my corn flakes.

  1. Vox Day from WorldNetDaily said that he thought that if they really wanted to win, Sen. Obama would have accepted the results at the convention, and then handed it to Sen. Clinton and accepted the VP spot.I think that even replacing Sen. Biden now would be seen as a sign of weakness– and just how strong the Republican ticket is.Regardless of what you think of women’s roles, etc., Gov. Palin has been a game changer.

  4. minthegap, you’re absolutely right — changing the ticket now would admit their weakness and Obama’s lack of judgment; however, I don’t doubt they’d do it anyway.
