Kids Say….

I’ve seen these sweet interviews between parent and child on several blogs the last couple of years. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to post one because I have no idea how my children will respond. But since I have nothing substantial to offer and I want to get back to daily posting, I figured I’d risk the embarrassment.

This afternoon, I took each child individually and asked the following questions…

1. What is something Mom always says to you?
A: Time to get off the computer.
N: Don’t play outside. (Only when his asthma is troubling him.)
B: Let’s do school work.
H: Empty the dishwasher.

2. What makes Mom happy?
A: Me loving you and things.
N: Us being nice.
B: When we learn new things.
H: Crazy GO Nuts time. (This is a silly family night when we eat and watch a movie together instead of sitting at the table.)

3. What makes Mom sad?
A: Me being rude to you and things.
N: Us disobeying you.
B: When we disobey.
H: When we go visit Grandmommy and when Daddy travels.

4. How does your Mom make you laugh?
A: By telling me funny things and tickles.
N: Say funny things.
B: Your jokes.
H: Telling funny jokes.

5. What was your Mom like as a child?
A: Cute and nice.
N: Playful.
B: You were bossy.
H: You were tricksy. (She says this because I told them about an evil trick I played on my younger brother to get him to eat bird poop. It all evened out, though, when he cast his fishing hook into my thumb. That was a good day.)

6. How old is your Mom? (31)
A: 41?
Me: **Gasp!**
A: Am I right?
Me: No, I’m 31.
A: OH, I was sooo close!

N: 31.

B: 31 years old.

H: 31.

7. How tall is your Mom? (5’7″)
A: I don’t know. Um, 1 centimeter tall.
N: 3 feet.
B: 5 feet tall
H: 5.3 feet

8. What is her favorite thing to do?
A: Play on the computer. (She thinks all computer time is play time.)
N: Be by yourself and type.
B: Spend time with us.
H: You sometimes like going for a walk.

9. What does your Mom do when you’re not around?
A: I don’t know. Fun stuff.
N: Maybe, go outside and read a book.
B: Read a book.
H: You go to restaurants with Daddy.

10. If your Mom becomes famous, what will it be for?
A: Painting.
N: Typing on the computer and not looking at it. (Noah is totally impressed by my ability to type without looking at the keys.)
B: Writing a book.
H: Writing a book. (I’m feeling a little pressure now.)

11. What is your Mom really good at?
A: Typing and reading and school and being a good teacher.
N: Typing on the computer.
B: Being a teacher.
H: Making me laugh.

12. What is your Mom not very good at?
A: Being nice.
N: I don’t know.
B: Playing Memory with Abbey. (I let her win! And her answer to this question is the thanks I get.)
H: Drawing.

13. What does your Mom do for a job?
A: Do school work with us.
N: Nothing.
B: Being a teacher.
H: You do home school with us.

14.What is your Mom’s favorite food?
A: Spaghetti.
N: Cookies and vegetables.
B: Lasagna and cookies.
H: Steamed cabbage with sausage.

15.What makes you proud of your Mom?
A: Loving and lots of stuff.
N: Cooking.
B: How much you teach us.
H: Cooking.

16. If your Mom were a cartoon character, who would she be?
A: A clown.
N: Bugs Bunny
B: Speedy Gonzales.
H: A dog, Bruno.

17. What do you and your Mom do together?
A: Eat and drink hot cocoa, read books and lots of stuff. (There was a period of time this year that we broke from school for “afternoon tea” and I would read aloud.)
N: Play games and drink hot cocoa and tea.
B: We go to the pool together.
H: We cook and watch movies.

18. How are you and your Mom the same?
A: Our germs are the same. We’re the Wiggins family. (One day Abbey was fussing because I asked her to share a drink with her sister. I told her it would be alright because we all have the same germs. Apparently, she hasn’t forgotten.)
N: Our hair color.
B: Our eyes are both green.
H: We both like being the boss. (YES!)

19. How are you and your Mom different?
A: Like our looks and our face
N: Different noses and eyes.
B: I like to play Empire at War and you don’t like to shoot stuff.
H: You’re taller.

20. How do you know your Mom loves you?
A: Cause you show it.
N: You cook food for me. You let me play. (The only things Noah ever wants to do — eat and play.)
B: Because you’re my mommy.
H: You take us to the movies and let us go places.

21. What does your Mom like most about your dad?
A: He loves you and you love him.
N: He’s sometimes nice to you and he takes us to movies.
B: His sarcasm.
H: He makes you laugh a lot. He plays songs for you.

22. Where is your Mom’s favorite place to go?
A: Chipotle.
N: The movie theater. Maybe fancy restaurants, too.
B: You like to go to the library.
H: Going to restaurants.

23. What is your Mom’s favorite music?
A: I don’t know.
N: Bob Dylan, Coldplay
B: Coldplay, Foo Fighters, The Beatles
H: Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Beatles
(Hmmm…they don’t really know. I rarely choose the music when we’re going somewhere. If I’m driving, then it’s talk radio. I really like all kinds of music — I couldn’t even tell you a favorite.)

24. Where did your Mom go to school?
A: College
N: In Tallassee somewhere? I don’t know really.
B: I don’t know.
H: I don’t know.
(My kids know next to nothing about my history. Tallassee is where Karl grew up.)

25. What is your Mom’s favorite t.v. show?
A: News
N: Lost, 24, news
B: Lost and 24 and Monk
H: News, Lost, The Office
(My after school ritual is to send the kids outside so I can enjoy Glenn Beck’s program with a sudoku puzzle and an ice-cold Dr. Pepper. I also enjoy the last 15 minutes of Special Report with Bret Baier. Though I really miss Brit Hume. That’s all the “news” (it’s actually just opinion) I watch.)
