Friday night at Secret Church Dr. Platt mentioned a list of books he recommends if you are interested in further study of possessions and prosperity. He did say to be discerning because he doesn’t necessarily agree with everything in all of these books. Read, learn, but be wise.
Hall and Moore were plugging a new book, What Difference Do It Make? (WDDIM). The new book covers what their lives have been like since the success of SKODAM. Their stories made me laugh. More than anything else, though, I marveled over how two very different men could become such close friends. I decided I had to make the trip to Birmingham to buy the books and meet the authors.
But the example that these Christians are setting for me is to give and not ask for an explanation, to prefer being taken advantage of, to give til it hurts, to trust God to do what pleases Him in their lives. Christ’s command is to feed the hungry. Not fix them before I feed them.
As the sun began its trek across the sky, I made my way to the downtown area that is commonly referred to as West End. Located across the river and the railroad tracks, down the hill (Tuscaloosa is literally a city on a hill), and just past the county jail, West End is not winning any All-American Neighborhood awards. And, yes, as a young white woman making her way to the soup kitchen all alone in the moments before dawn, I was a little uncomfortable.
