This month marks one year for our church search. I really hope it does not last much longer. I thought we would have settled in somewhere by now.
I have noticed there is a lot of blogging in the Christian blogosphere regarding the search for a good church. Didn’t some guy sell himself for church visits on eBay recently? I wonder how that turned out.
Anyway, I thought I’d blog about our experience a little. Maybe it will serve to edify someone else. Having visited around 17 different churches, we’ve seen a decent sized slice of the body in our area. We’ve seen some things we like, but mostly we’ve seen things we didn’t like. Or, in the very least, we found something that would keep us from raising our children there.
We are learning quite a bit about the way church is done in our town. We are also learning a bit about ourselves.
One helpful resource for finding a healthy church comes from 9Marks Ministries. Mark Dever spells out nine marks of a healthy church. Criteria like this helps to keep the focus off of the self–what I like and what I don’t like–and put the focus on Biblical principles.

I studied 9 Marks several years ago. Thanks for mentioning it. Now that we’re sort of searching for a church again Hubby and I will have to read this again.

Yes! We have found it to be a very helpful and objective resource for us. It really puts into words all that is important.
