We nudged one another out of bed this morning and out the door on time this morning. The fellas were handsome and the young ladies were darling. The parents were the parents. We heard a stirring sermon on the glory of God displayed in creation. The pastor expounded on days four through six. I was leaping on the inside as he described God’s greatness! Rather than telling me I was created because God needed relationship with man, I was told of my great need of God for the sustaining of my life.
During lunch we talked about all we learned. I was so encouraged to hear my oldest children repeat parts of the sermon they found most interesting.
And, then, He reminded me that I am also in great need of His grace. I received a phone call which sent me reeling. I was completely caught off guard and became so hurt and angry as this person was talking that I saw only two choices before me: say something you know you will regret or get off the phone immediately. I opted for the latter. I abruptly ended the conversation and hung up!
I stood trembling, gripping my kitchen counter. After about an hour, I was much calmer. I called her back and apologized for cutting her off and hanging up on her. I asked for forgiveness. I had decided that trying to explain the why’s would only negate the apology. “I’m sorry, but…” is not an apology. The plain truth is that I reacted the way I did because I am a sinner. Rather than be reviled, I hung up. By God’s grace, she accepted my apology (and I accepted hers) and I hope my wretched behavior does not cause a long-term rift in our relationship.
Even seemingly little conflicts like this serve to remind me of my depth of weakness, my depth of need, and how far God willingly extends His grace to those ask for it.

I’m glad you heard such a good message at church. I will pray for your relationship with your friend. I have had that happen before too. Thank you for your example of God’s grace in your life.Christina

Unfortunately, there probably isn’t a woman on the planet who hasn’t had that happen.
