I promised Wendy a picture of our “Mustafar cake.” Our boys cannot have regular cake because of egg and milk allergies, so our “cakes” have been very different. One year I attempted a cake sans eggs and milk and other stuff that make cake good, but it tasted more like play-dough. Therefore, I usually create something that Benjamin and Noah can enjoy and then make a cake for the rest of the people at the party. The picture above is lots of black cherry jell-o. Benjamin, who had not seen any of the Spiderman movies at the time, was still into Spiderman. Hubby drew the spider and web with decorating gel.
Last year, Star Wars: Episode III was released. At the end of movie, Obi Wan and Anakin engage in an exciting duel on a volcanic planet called Mustafar. Hubby bought Benjamin the Mustafar playset and we used it for the party. In the picture, you can see a mountain of Oreos with orange and red “lava” flowing from its top. Obi Wan and Anakin are fighting on the playset next to the “cake.” It’s kind of difficult to see in the picture, but there are lots of parts to the set hanging over the Oreo mountain. Benjamin loved it! It was also the first year the Golden Oreos were put on store shelves, so we had Oreos for the “light” side and the “dark” side. I thought it was a cute idea.
If any of you who have to deal with food allergies have any good ideas for parties and such, please pass them along in the comments section.

Thanks for the pictures Leslie. Very creative and fun, I love it!My son is allergic to peanuts and all nuts. I thought this was kind of hard, but I can’t imagine how much harder it would be if it were milk and eggs. I’m sure you just get used to it and adjust, but I can see where it could be a challenge too.

My boys are allergic to nuts, too. And soy. And fish. In some ways, we have gotten used to it. It has not been easy, and I’m usually the one kicking and screaming about it.
