Why Write?

,

I’m reading a new, not-yet-published book by Nancy Guthrie titled, Hoping for Something Better. You can look for it to hit bookshelves in July 2007. It is a book/Bible study based on the book of Hebrews. So far, so good. Anyway, I want to share one quote from it because she puts into words why I like to keep journals and why I started this blog.

“If we just hear truth, but we never write it out or wrestle with it, if we never try to repeat it or explain it to someone else, we never really own it. It will leave us as quickly as it came. And we will find ourselves needing to learn the “elementary truths” over and over again.”

  1. Like the new look!I so agree with this. I have my blog and I have a hand written journal. I do wrestle with things on paper and find clarity in doing so. I love to write but like quiet to do it. And well…..that isn’t always possible here. LOL! Once we get more settled I hope to get into a better blog routine. I still prefer my journal to the blog though.

  3. So often people (friends) are perplexed about why I blog and honestly I am not sure of all the reasons I started…mainly for family, I think. Since then I have come to really work out a lot of thoughts and conversations that I have in my head…and in my heart. It helps to write it and it helps even more for others to read it…comment and add their thoughts. I like to discuss. Of course, you probably figured that out by now 🙂

  4. This sounds like a book to look for in July. Hebrews is my favorite book of the Bible. Thanks for sharing the quote.

  5. That is a great quote. I find the same thing is true for me also, only I struggle more in getting much out of my head!Have you ever read Nancy Guthrie’s first book “Holding on to Hope”? I think you would like it. She shares about her experience loosing two of her children to a rare disease. I cried as I read it, but was glad I did.

  6. Great quote! That is so true–I grasp so much better when I struggle to express my thoughts and convey them. Great reminder!

  7. I never really thought of it that way…but it is true. Blogging is helping me to get my thoughts in order (well, sortof…) and making me think twice before hitting “publish”
