In the News

Car accidents are so bloggable. That is, as long as no one is injured. Here’s the story: After work yesterday, Karl decided he needed to head over to Target to secure the new Star Wars toys. Have I mentioned that I have two and a half closets full of Star Wars action figures, ships, and play sets? Karl is a collector. He softened me up by picking up something I needed and reminding me that he had to shop for a good anniversary card. “I didn’t go just for the toys. I went for you and the toys just happened to be there.” Riiiiiight.

Before you start thinking that his “hobby” drives me nuts or something like that, let me just say that I’ve learned to laugh hysterically when he brings home more toys. We’re making progress. I no longer try to take retail revenge (I can’t keep up). This past year, Karl actually decided that it would be “O.K.” to throw away the toy packaging (this freed up a HUGE amount of space), and he drew the line at attending the Star Wars Celebration IV that is going on this weekend. He just couldn’t justify spending $1000 on a trip to a Star Wars convention. Amen? Yes, a big AMEN. He is, however, hosting his own 30th Anniversary Star Wars Movie Marathon on Monday, showing Episodes I, II, and III. Then, next month he will have another one for Episodes IV, V, and VI. I have a feeling most of us ladies will be in the kitchen, sipping coffee, wishing Karl would turn it down a little. It should be fun.

So, anyway, Karl was on his way home from Target when he was rear-ended at a red light. The impact from behind caused him to crash into the car in front of him. No one was injured and the driver-at-fault is insured! Yay! Here are some pictures:

Karl is a little sore, but feels much better than he expected to feel this morning.

Other news: The kittens reach the 6-week mark this weekend and I am working hard to transition them to being outside cats. They are just too frisky to stay inside and we have “lost” a couple of them. There are just too many places to hide. Kitty (the momma) is really getting on my nerves, waking me at all hours of the night. It’s like having an infant. “What do you want? Want to go out? Need water? Just want me to pet you?!” I can’t take it; I’ve gotten used to a full night’s sleep. My children sleep better than this cat. The kittens have started eating kitten chow, so we are getting MommaCat “fixed” next week. Here’s a picture of them checking out their new digs:

School news: I realized recently that in spite of all that we’ve learned from our time in the Bible this year, the kids have not memorized all the books in order. So, this week, the kids have worked on memorizing all 66 books of the Bible in order. Hannah has them all. Benjamin has most of the OT and all of the NT. Because Noah and Abbey have listened to H and B repeat them over and over again, they’ve learned a lot of them, too. Abbey’s pronunciations are just too cute! I wish you could hear her.

Oh, and Noah lost his first tooth! You can see his new smile in the sidebar.

I guess those are the biggest news stories coming out of our house this week. Have a great weekend!

  1. There is a great disk by the Harrow family that has all the books of the Bible on one song, and it is really easy to memorize. Can’t remember which CD it’s on, but it’s really great. And I’m SO glad your husband wasn’t hurt!

  4. Kim–I think the key word in your comment is “Mom.” This is my husband we’re talking about here. 🙂 Is your attic climate controlled? Ours is hotter than blue blazes in the summer, so the toys stay in the house. The weird thing about Karl keeping the packaging is that he took the toys out of the boxes…kept the boxes in another place, and sometimes only kept the backing cards. ??? Right now he is working on building a sql database of all of his toys so that he will have all of his toy info at his fingertips. He is doing this in our kitchen…have you ever said to your husband, “Please pick up your toys so I can sweep in the kitchen”? It has become one of those things that has endeared him to me…I think.

  7. My daughters boyfriend thinks it would be great to have a star wars themed wedding. Attendants as storm troopers. Hmmm she’s not engaged yet so she still has time to run and not look back…Glad the person who hit your husband was insured!

  8. Karl joked about using the Star Wars Theme music as our recessional. He loves Star Wars, but not enough to do something that embarrassing.

  12. Wendy–I did finish reading Heaven at Home, but got bored with blogging about it. I am determined to go back to it after the Piper book, and do the interview. I’ll probably go ahead with the interview before I finish blogging through the book, though. Thanks for asking!

  13. I’m so glad your hubby is okay!!We have a playroom full of my husband’s and his brother’s old Star Wars and GI Joe toys that my mother-in-law finally got tired of storing at her house. Oh joy – I cried when I found out they were coming home with us, we just don’t have room for them all. They were in pretty decent condition until my guys got their hands on them. Well, toys are to be played with is my philosophy. And, of course, the boys are busily collecting new ones, too. So, I feel your Star Wars pain.
