I receive email updates from the Westminster Theological Seminary Bookstore regarding sales and specials. I am very happy to pass this info along to you with the hopes that you will click on a book cover. For every click through to their store I receive one point. If I can accumulate 50 points in a month, then I will receive a gift certificate to their bookstore. I like this bookstore because everything they offer is sound and many of their books are written by dead theologians.
Here are few Best of WTS on sale this month:
The Rise of Christianity: How the Obscure, Marginal Jesus Movement Became the Dominant Religious Force in the Western World by Rodney Stark sounds really interesting. The kids and I have been studying the spread of Islam in Medieval History. Unfortunately, our history curriculum doesn’t seem to give nearly as much detail to Christianity. This book may be a helpful resource to help balance what we’re learning. Click the cover to read the WTS staff review of this book.
This is one of the first books I bought when I was wanting to have a better understanding of Reformed Theology. Sproul’s writing and explanations are very easy to understand. If you know anything about Ligonier Ministries, then you know his desire is to educate the church layperson so that he is fully equipped; he doesn’t write with a lot of theological jargon. At least, I don’t think so. This book provides a solid foundation for the person who desires to understand the basics of Reformed Theology.
I actually read When I Don’t Desire God before I read Desiring God. Next to Desiring God, When I Don’t Desire God: How to Fight for Joy has to be one of my favorite Piper books. I really can’t say enough about how God has used Piper’s philosophy, “God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him,” to radically change my relationship with Jesus for the better, so I won’t even start. I will say, however, that if you do not have this book in your tool box for fighting sin and depression, then please get it today. I think I paid close to $20 for my copy and you can order it from WTS today for $7.69!! As my Aunt Sandy would say, “For $7.69, I hate to not buy it.”
I’m only comfortable recommending the books I’ve read. Click here to see the other titles in the “best of” sale.

Being new to “reformed” theology myself, Sprouls book looks like a must have! Thanks for passing on the information. I hope you get your gift certificate.
