Usually you can read my book reviews here first. If the book is one that I am reviewing for Discerning Reader, then it is published there, too. Recently, I started posting book reviews on Amazon. With thousands of books from which to choose and with “recommendations” popping up on every page, it is difficult to know exactly what is good and what is not. I would encourage all of you to write something, even if it’s just a few sentences, for your favorite books, but especially for those books you would not recommend.
As you probably know, Amazon allows users to vote on whether or not a review is helpful. I am writing this post to ask you to vote for one of my reviews. Back in August I wrote a review of Beth Moore’s book Get Out of That Pit. About four months ago I decided to post it on Amazon. A majority of the reviews for that particular book are overwhelmingly positive, but mine is one of only two reviews giving GOTP just one star. The more votes I have, the more people will see my review. I’d really appreciate it if you’d read the review (it is different from the one posted here and at DR because of size constraints on Amazon) and vote for it, based on whether or not you find it helpful in your decision to buy the book.
Feel free to vote on my other reviews while you’re there!
Thank you!!

Yes–it is so important to have a solid Biblical perspective out there!

Did you know that sometimes Amazon will pull reviews for really no good reason, especially reviews with lower star ratings? It has been a topic of discussion over at a blog I frequent. Some ladies have given the latest Vision Forum book low stars, and viola! Their reviews were pulled. And, might I add that the reviews were not mean spirited or anything like that. It was rather odd, really to see them pulled.I for one almsot ALWAYS read the reviews before making a purchase, so I know the need for HONEST reviews!Sometimes it makes me wonder why they do the reviews at all—they just want the sales, and ‘negative’ reviews don’t help them, so they pull them. Not sure why I’m telling you all this, but don’t be surprised if you get a review pulled if it is on the low side of star rankings.

Lindsey, I was wondering about that. It took several weeks for me to get this review to show up. Sometimes my reviews post immediately. And then there was this beth moore one that it took me weeks to see on the site. I submitted it over and over again before they put it up. I wrote and rewrote it. It was weird.

I have a funny story – actually, it’s probably not funny, but to me it was because it’s such a typical conversation for Josh and me.Setting: Josh on laptop in family room, me bumbling around and cleaning up dinner.Josh: “Are you still friends with Lux Venit?”Me: “Leslie? Yeah”. (thinking to myself “what is this, Junior High?”)Josh: “Does she write for…”Me: “Discerning Reader? Yes.”Josh: (silent)Me: (glancing over his shoulder, I see that he’s open to your blog, and can’t help noticing that I always answer his questions even though he already knows the answers or can find them faster online). =DAnyway, he read your review of the James study on discerning reader and couldn’t see who had written it. But apparently he knew enough to check your blog and he saw that you had posted it there too.He liked it.

You know I agree with you 100%. Maybe my husband will read the reviews next time before he buys me a book! Thanks for pointing out the Amazon review so I could vote for you. Always glad to help out.
