WTS Books always has great sale prices. And, as always, shipping is $5 no matter how large the order. Right now they have several books for couples and parents at great prices.
This is an excellent parenting resource! The only thing is that he doesn’t give much hope for parents who didn’t start out discipling their children the “right” way. He doesn’t say that it’s impossible, but he does emphasize the difficulty inherent in changing course midstream.
I know a few people who have read this book and sing its praises. I have read Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Ted Tripp and I think Plowman’s book is the practical handbook to go along with the principles he lays out in his book.
This one also looks interesting to me. Many parents have difficulty bringing God into a conversation. This book may have some helpful advice for how to do that without sounding forced or preachy.
I think the title says it all.
I think Rob Bell has a new book out about God and sex. Sex God…is that the name of it? I read a little bit of it at Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago. I vote for the Mahaney book on the title alone.
I have this book but I haven’t started reading it yet. Be sure to read a review of it here, though. The subtitle grabbed me: What if God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy?

We have most of these…but we don’t have the “How to act right when your spouse acts wrong” or the CJ Mahaney – sex and the glory of God…but we do have those CD’s from the conference! The first 3 are EXCELLENT – I’ve read the first 2, and Jason has read much of the 3rd one. Jason and I read most of Sacred Marriage together on our date nights – I REALLY like it!!!!! I don’t think he’s a Christian Hedonist, but if you are, then you can take that perspective into and that helps!! I highly recommend it! We’re reading Love that Lasts right now as a couple – it’s good too! ; )

Thanks for the comment, Shawnda. We’ve read Love That Lasts, and it is good. After I read Sacred Marriage maybe I can write a comparison of the two. I don’t know if Gary Thomas is a Christian Hedonist or not, either. From what I know about him he brings together contemplative spirituality practices and Christianity, but tries to keep them Christian rather than delving into really mystical stuff. Did you notice anything like that in his book? I got that info from his website.

Interesting, Leslie. I feel like I usually pick up on that kind of stuff….but I didn’t!! Sounds a bit strange, but I didn’t get that from the book AT ALL! Ya know how seasons effect everything? The same with this….the season of life we were reading the book in was a REALLY hard season at our church. We were in a situation that was REALLY unhealthy, and we didn’t have fellowship……pretty much AT ALL. We felt pretty alone. There was a lot of head knowledge, but not being applied to the heart or in relationships….pretty cold. And we were on staff…..so we were IN it : ( Anyhow, saying that, Sacred Marriage was feeding out souls b/c he was RELATIONAL!!! He was REAL about sin and the challenges and JOYS of marriage. And bringing all back to God’s glory…regardless of how we feel from moment to moment!!!! We read this a several yrs ago, but tha’ts what I remember from it! Every time we sat down to read it, we always walked away encouraged and stirred to press on for the glory of the Lord (and feeling very encouraged that we were totally normal!) ; ) I look forward to hearing what you think about it!!!!love ya!Shawnda
