I know it seems like I’m always posting something about a book, and maybe I am, so why make an exception for today, right? You’re probably going to see a lot of info about this book popping up around the blogs. Sinclair Ferguson has a new book, In Christ Alone, Living the Gospel-Centered Life. Here are what others are saying about it:
“…a feast that will satisfy both mind and heart.”
C. J. Mahaney, Sovereign Grace Ministries
“…[will] make hearts brave and souls stand at attention.”
Joni Eareckson Tada, Joni and Friends
“…will instruct and delight you. I warmly commend it.”
Jerry Bridges, Author and Bible Teacher
I can’t express how much I gained by reading C.J. Mahaney’s book Cross-Centered Life. So, when he says that this book is a feast for the mind and heart I get excited.
For the past two years, I’ve read a chapter from John Piper’s Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die each day leading up to Easter. This new book from Ferguson has fifty chapters and I’d love to read it this year as I prepare my heart for Easter. The publisher says,
“In fifty short chapters arranged in six sections, Dr. Ferguson shows that Christ, who is fully God, took on humanity that He might be the Great High Priest of His people as well as the once-for-all sacrifice; that He now ministers to His people through His Spirit, crowning them with great and precious blessings; and that believers are called to duty, from cultivating contentment to mortifying sin. In Christ Alone is packed full of nuggets of Scriptural truth that will spark and fan the flames of the believer’s love for the Savior who is so beautiful in His person and so faithful in His work on behalf of His beloved sheep.”
Doesn’t that sound like something excellent to read next year?
You can read the first three chapters here. Considering the season we are living in right now, namely Christmas, please take a moment to read Chapter 2: Santa Christ?. Do we confuse our children by blending Jesus and Santa at Christmastime?

ohhhhhh, that sounds really good!!! I might have to take up that tradition of yours with the reading a chapter a wk through something like this leading up to Easter! Love that idea! I just challenged a lady the other day who had her daughter in a pic with santa….why? What’s the motive or benefit? This might be a good piece to pass along : )….or maybe that’s too bold??? Hmmmmmm….I don’t discern things like that very well!

Thanks for directing us to the chapter on Santa Christ. It gave me some good things to think about. By the way, when you had the tag at the end of your posts to click on Westminster Books, I always clicked. Any reason why you took it down?

Christina, I’m not sure those clicks were counting since they were a part of a feed and not a direct link from my blog. I think there is a special link for feeds to their site and I didn’t have it. So, I’m having to work a little harder by actually writing post about their books. :)Thanks for clicking!
