Status Report, June

I am…

JoiningLisa in giving you a status report for today.

Sitting…by the pool.  Yesterday we began six weeks of swim team and swimming lessons.  You can find me poolside every day for the next six weeks.  Which means I will be…

ReadingLes Miserables.  I am also finishing up The Bruised Reed by Richard Sibbes. I know I said that I would blog through it, but its message is reminding me of some things I want to keep to myself.

Drinking…Dr. Pepper.  It’s my favorite.

Wondering…how my boys are faring today.  They’ve been at boy scout camp since Sunday.  My sons had a few concerns about what they thought camp would be like — What if I get scared?  What if I get homesick?  My concerns revolved around health and safety, allergies and asthma.  We went to check on them last night, and I can’t express to you how relieved I was to find out that they are doing well and having a blast.  Though we didn’t get to see Benjamin (the WeBeLoS had to set up camp on their own, away from the rest of their pack last night), we heard some good news about him from a few of the other leaders.  Apparently, he impressed a lot of people at the swimming pool.  He passed the swimmer test: jump feet first into deep water, swim 75 yards, swim 25 yards using a backstroke, then float; the 100 yards must be completed in one swim and include a sharp turn.  I can’t wait to hear about it from Benj!

Planning…our meals for the rest of the week and the grocery list.  I was working on this using Excel and several of the moms here at the pool have expressed that they are impressed with how organized I am.  If they only knew…

Hoping…that I don’t forget to vote in today’s primary.  This is my reminder.

Enjoying…our garden.  So far we’ve harvested cucumbers, squash, and cherry tomatoes.  My cherry tomatoes are delicious!  I can’t get over how flavorful they are; I wish I had planted more. In the flower department, we have a beautiful hydrangea; sunflowers, gardenias, and lantanas are about to bloom; and my tiger lilies are here again — this is their 10th or 11th year to bloom.

Learning…how to make pickles.  We have a MESS of cucumbers and they’re just getting started.  Share your knowledge with me!

That’s about it for me today.  I can’t think of anything else worth sharing.

  1. Les Mis is my favorite book of all time. I probably haven’t read it in several years. Great summer reading idea.

I just got Radical by David Platt in the mail yesterday. I am SO bad about doing reviews about books simply because right now it’s just not on the top of the list though I love writing about what I read. I will try to let you know what I think when I am done.

Have fun by the pool…… slightly jealous. It rained today again for the 6 or 7 th day in a row…I am wearing a hoody on the first of June inside my house. What’s up with that!

  2. Hey Leslie,
Who is doing swim/swim team? Paige is a member of CTA and swims at the aquatics center. Nancy Belwitt is her coach. Would be cool if we ended up on the same team!
